Ages: This is an adult class but open to ages 15+. Youth under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult participant with a 1:1 ratio. An enrollment form and class fee must be received for each person attending class, regardless of age.
A cold breakfast and coffee will be provided on Sunday morning. You will need to bring food for 2 lunches and 1 dinner.
ADVANCED WILDERNESS SURVIVAL SKILLS
Start taking your wilderness skills to the next level! In our Wilderness Survival 101 course, we cover a ton of wilderness skill theory. This course is designed to help you develop theory into practical skills that can be utilized for wilderness survival, backcountry safety, and the enhancement of all of your outdoor adventures.
In this two-day overnight hands-on class, you’ll be working to hone your skills in developing dynamic solutions for shelter, water, fire, food, natural tools, and materials. You will get to test your skills Saturday night as you sleep in a shelter you built, warmed by a fire you created, and drinking water you harvested and purified.
Additionally, this course will develop your proficiency with the proper use, maintenance, and safety of the most valuable tools that we utilize in the outdoors: knife axes, hatchet, saws, fire starters, ropes, knots, and lashings. All while enjoying the company of students and instructors, who are also excited to dive into this excellent skill set that will help you leap from beginner practitioner to a more competent and confident outdoors person.
This hands-on workshop will cover, but not limited to:

Core content survival/wilderness living skills of shelter, water, fire, and food.

Knife selection, maintenance, and use, including safety, carving techniques, and wood splitting.

Axe selection, maintenance, and use.

Saw selection, maintenance, and use.

Rope selection, maintenance, and use, including basic knots, hitches, and lashings.

Fire starting utilizing friction fire, matches, and Ferro rods. Fire building utilizing different styles of fire building and tending, as well as firewood selection and conservation.

Shelter building strategies and concepts include constructing a “Super Shelter,” which can be easily improvised with a few common pieces of equipment and was made popular by Master Bushcrafter Mors Kochanski.
Wilderness Survival 101 is prerequisite to taking this course and the course is limited to 16 people.
