Summer 2023 Environmental Education Internship For Teens

Earth Native Wilderness School is thrilled to announce we are now accepting applications for our Summer Environmental Education Internship for Teens! We have been connecting people with nature for the last decade, and now it’s time to start training the next generation of educators. Teen interns will work alongside Earth Native instructors throughout the summer to gain first hand experience planning, prepping, and delivering enriching environmental education programming to children. In addition to gaining hands-on teaching experience, interns will also be mentored in our 8 Shields “Invisible School” nature mentoring style. This internship is an excellent opportunity to learn new skills, increase confidence, begin to build a strong resume for future job opportunities, and have a ton of fun!

Applicants must be between 14-18 years old, and be either a current or past Earth Native student. Education Interns will be required to commit to a minimum of 176 hours throughout the summer (four 40/hr weeks of camp and 16 hours of training prior to camp). Note: Applicants who want even more experience may request to intern for up to nine weeks of camp. We are seeking highly motivated and responsible teens who are passionate about being outside, sharing their nature skills and passion with others, and Earth Native’s mission.

Assist instructors with day to day camp operations and activities. Help facilitate before and after care activities for campers. Assist instructors with lesson planning and material prep. Lead at least one activity every camp week (circle, specific lesson, game, etc.). Help maintain a safe and functional outdoor school learning environment. Participate in daily camp planning, debrief and feedback meetings with instructional staff. Interns will report to the Camp Director and Earth Native Director of Programs.

This is an unpaid internship. Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of their internship and may request letters of recommendation from Earth Native staff for job and/or college applications.
