TRADITIONAL WOODEN BOW MAKING
If you are coming from out of town and would like to camp at our campus during your weekend class, this is available for an additional $20 per night, per tent. Please choose this option during enrollment. Bathrooms and showers are on-site.
“When bowhunting, you find you get closer to the woodland critters. The flora and the forest floor become clearer. You look at things more closely. You’re more aware.” ~ Fred Bear
If we look back far enough, we would find that we all share a long, rich heritage of successful hunters. Historically, the bow and arrow have probably put more food on the table than any other tool ever created by humans. And while there have been many modern advancements, few things are more enjoyable than shooting with a simple stick and string, especially one you have crafted by hand yourself.
Join us in learning to build your own traditional wooden bow in this 4-day class that’ll take place over two weekends. Skilled bowyers will lead students through the process of building a traditional bow that can be used either for hunting large game or simply backyard target practice.
In this class you will learn:
How to take a split seasoned log (bow stave) and craft it by hand into a beautiful and functional wooden bow
How to read wood grain and growth rings
Bow layout and design
How to properly tiller a wooden bow
Bow sealing and finishing techniques
How to apply a handle wrap and arrow rest
How to properly use the tools necessary to build a quality traditional wooden bow
Instinctive archery shooting techniques
Students will leave the course with their own wooden bow and the knowledge necessary to put this skill into practice at home or in the field.
The course instructor (Earth Native Wilderness School’s Founder Dave Scott) has been crafting wooden bows and arrows for 15 years and is excited to share with you some incredible knowledge about traditional bow making
