BIRD FEATHER ID

Have you ever picked up a feather and wondered who had dropped it? Or perhaps you marveled at the act of flight and just how that bird was able to accomplish such an incredible physiological feat! We'll dive into all of this and much more in the Feather Identification class.

Join us for this fun and informative class and we promise you'll never look at a feather the same way again. Students will not only learn the process of identifying their feather finds, but will also gain a solid understanding of:

  • Different feather shapes and how those shapes make up the overall shape of a wing or tail

  • Avian wing design and how wings and feathers are adapted for specific habitats

  • How to determine a bird's health by looking at individual feathers

  • Aging birds by their feathers

  • Bird predation analysis

  • And so much more!

This class will include a combination of informative engaging lecture and practical hands on feather identification in small groups.
