Your child will need to have a Mora Fixed Blade Knife (Stainless Steel blade) for this class. These are readliy available to buy online, or you can purchase or rent one from us during registration.

One of the most satisfying things we can do as humans is make a useful tool with our own hands. Carving a wooden spoon can not only open a door for your child into a world of creativity and artistry but it will also your help kids to develop a cool new skill that they can be proud of. This awesome class will teach kids how to make a beautiful and useful wooden spoon out of a piece of Eastern red cedar.

In this class, we will cover:

  • How to split out a spoon blank from a larger piece of wood

  • Spoon carving techniques

  • Spoon finishing (sanding and applying the oil finish).

  • Knife safety and proper knife use techniques

By the end of this class, your child will have a product that they can be proud of, use on a frequent basis, and show off to their friends. Each child will bring home a spoon that they have created, and our instructors will be there to guide them all along the way.

All materials will be provided. No prior experience in wood carving is necessary.
