If you are coming from out of town and would like to camp at our campus, this is available for an additional $10 per night, per tent. Please choose this option during enrollment. Bathrooms and showers are on-site.

Earth Native is so excited to welcome Master Bowyer Jim Hamm to instruct an Osage Flat Bow class!

Jim Hamm has made over a thousand wooden bows over the last 40 years, has authored and co-authoring ten bowmaking books to date. Jim is one of the pioneers of traditional archery’s resurgence, and he has helped many hundreds of students around the country make their first bow. Come learn from one of the most skilled bowyers in the world and the man who literally wrote the books!

Each student will be led from start to finish through the process of building a traditional wooden bow out of Osage Orange (arguably the best bow wood on the planet).

In this class you will learn:

  • How to take a split seasoned Osage bow stave and craft it by hand into a beautiful and functional bow

  • How to read wood grain and growth rings to understand how to properly craft and design a durable quality bow

  • Bow layout and design

  • How to properly tiller a wooden bow

  • Bow sealing and finishing techniques

  • How to apply a handle wrap and arrow rest

  • How to properly use the tools necessary to build a quality traditional wooden bow

Students will leave the course with their own wooden Osage Flat Bow and the knowledge necessary to put this skill into practice at home or in the field.

Opportunities to learn from the best of the best don’t come around often. Don’t miss your chance!

Class is limited to a maximum of 10 participants.

Note: If you plan to bring your own fully seasoned Osage bow stave to use at class please select that option at registration and the class tuition will be reduced by $100.
