Have you ever found an arrowhead or a primitive tool and pondered how it was made? Learn the basics of the ancient art of flint knapping and stone tools. Students will be introduced to what makes a rock “knappable” and how and where to source knappable rock in Central Texas. Students will also learn how energy moves through stone and how that energy can be manipulated, through controlled breaking, to produce a desired shape.

Students will learn:

  • How to find, identify, and source knappable stone

  • How to use natural abrasive materials to shape primitive tools

  • How to find or make basic primitive stone working tools

  • Every student will leave class with a tool that they have made from natural materials
